UofM Central Power Plant – Mechanical Upgrades
Industry: Power & Energy

PROJECTS
Scope of Work
CCI Industrial Constructors partnered with the University of Michigan to provide general contracting and self-perform construction services for the rooftop condenser and mechanical upgrade project. The central power plant serves as highly efficient, reliable on-campus source of heat and electricity that supports mission-critical functions across UofM, including life-saving research and 24/7 demands of a major regional medical center.
The scope of work included demolition of four (4) existing balance condensers & access platforms, modifications of support frames, installation of the new condensers, mechanical connection of steam & condensate piping, re-installation of conduit and wiring and installation of new platforms with ladders. Due to operational constraints, only two of the four condensers could be offline at one time. CCI’s rigging team provided control over project phasing, scheduled shutdowns, logistics and heavy rigging operations. In addition, as part of the rigging & lifting plan, our team developed a critical lift plan, coordinated all necessary traffic control, and city permitting.
As a trusted power & energy contractor, our team has decades of experience performing critical path shutdowns & outages across the state of Michigan. Our team leveraged our self-perform construction capabilities and network of trade partners to successfully manage this critical infrastructure upgrade for the University of Michigan.
