Scope of Work

The Unit 1 Turbine at Consumers Energy’s D.E. Karn Generating Complex was shut down due to a forced outage. Given this was not a planned outage, speed and efficiency was paramount to the success of the critical turnaround.

As a preferred contractor and onsite maintenance provider, CCI was contacted immediately. Crews and equipment were mobilized within hours, putting on two shifts working around the clock. Preliminary inspections were conducted revealing that multiple bearings had failed and needed to be replaced.

The turbine was opened, inspected and the bearings were overhauled in under three weeks. CCI was able to return the unit to plant operations ahead of the projected outage timeline, reducing the overall impact to the plant.
