Major Construction Completed For New Blackstart Backup Power System At Michigan Power Plant
Brighton, MI (November 1, 2023) – CCI Industrial Constructors, a Brighton-based self-performing industrial general contractor, announced today that the company has completed substantial construction for a new onsite backup power system.
In order to maintain continuity of power operations, the power plant invested in the construction of a stand-by (Blackstart) power system for the four main Westinghouse W501D combustion turbines. The purpose of the system is to provide backup power in the event of a power outage.

The scope of work included site excavation, underground utilities, new foundations, utility racks, above ground electrical, equipment setting of four 1250KW diesel generators and start-up/commissioning. In addition to the project demands, our client contacted our team for additional civil / concrete work required for a separate project. A new Main Unit Transformer (MUT) was scheduled to arrive onsite ahead of schedule, requiring our team to expedite the construction of a foundation and containment pad. Our team was able to adapt and deliver the new foundation on time for the setting of the transformer.
