CCI Industrial Constructors Proactive Approach To Safety

Leading By Example
Safety is at the core of everything we do and is one of our central guiding principles. We promote and foster a culture where people truly care about one another and where everyone buys in to our mission of zero incidents. Health and safety success heavily relies on uncompromised safety core values, personal commitment and a passionate belief in achieving zero injuries. We achieve this through frontline leadership, positive recognition, safe work procedures and accountability at all levels.
At CCI, we all contribute to the success of our safety program. From our leadership who instils a strong safety culture, the superintendents who lead the way, the project managers who help trade partners understand our safety practices, and the tradespeople who guides our young apprentices. This philosophy leads to safety-first decisions, inspiring collaboration and effective problem solving.
Proactive, Not Reactive
Our mission is clear: safety and productivity go hand in hand. Without a safe work environment, productivity suffers, and without production, our company and workforce cannot thrive. With a relentless commitment to safety awareness in the field, we’ve seen measurable results, including over 5 years of zero OSHA recordable injuries and a low EMR rating of .76. These results are a testament to the dedication of our team members, who continue to prioritize both their own safety and the well-being of our trade partners, clients and community members working around them.
A key factor in our progress has been the continuous improvement of our safety procedures and culture. These improvements have been implemented based on real-time field reporting across all divisions, ensuring appropriate actions are taken. Additionally, our safety strategy begins early on in the project planning, streamlining processes to prevent disruptions once work begins. This approach reflects a broader transformation that serves as a supportive resource, helping our teams find practical safety solutions. As we continue to move into 2026, we will continue to challenge our team members and trade partners to make safety a priority at every level.
Good Catch Reporting
Our field teams have maintained a proactive approach to identifying and correcting potential near-miss incidents, in which a recordable incident was prevented. The project leaders are responsible for identifying these incidents, determining the root cause and implementing corrective actions to eliminate future incidents.

Stop Work Authority (SWA) Stand-Downs
Every worker on our project sites has the responsibility and obligation to stop work without fear of punishment. Our SWA procedure create a culture where everyone has a voice and extreme ownership at all levels on the jobsites. Through these SWA Stand-Downs, our teams have supported the prevention of countless potential incidents.
One example in particular highlights the impact of a proactive safety culture on a project. A team member reported a concern regarding the unconfirmed weight of a load being lifted with our 75-Ton Mobilift. In our fleet, all company-owned cranes are equipped with LMI’s and load links that display the weight of the load being rigged. In the case, the LMI was not functioning properly. Instead of continuing on with the lift, our operator took a step back to discuss the situation with our Superintendent. After investigation, it was determined that the load link was not installed correctly. Upon, proper installation & calibration, our team also discovered that the weight of the component exceeded the estimated weight. This forward thinking prevented a potential rigging failure not only on this single project, but across all jobsites. With honest reporting, our team ensured our workforce was safe and our client’s property was protected.

People-Driven Culture
Safety has always been about the people and how we drive our culture forward as one team. Every team member throughout our organization is committed to safety excellence. This buy-in starts with a firm commitment from leadership and clear communication of what we are doing and why it’s important. Managing our systems and processes is important. But managing people takes a different approach. Our success in a strong safety culture is built on strengthening connections with our team, understanding how to communicate and making it a point to ensure everyone’s voice is heard.
This cohesiveness allows our team to manage our safety program across all divisions and project sites, whether executing daily service jobs or large-scale capital projects. By leading with safety, we ensure our projects are ran efficiently and every worker is well-informed, prepared for success and protected. This is how we lead by example and this is why people and safety will always be at the forefront of everything we do.
