Manufacturing Stamping Press – Emergency Repairs
& Upgrades
Industry: Automotive

PROJECTS
Scope of Work
During a critical press shutdown, our manufacturing client, American Axel turned to CCI Industrial Constructors for emergency machinery repair services at the metal forming Fraser manufacturing plant. The one-of-a-kind stamping press was essential for plant production operations and required an expedited turnaround.
Upon receiving the call, CCI’s millwright/rigging division team assessed the condition and mobilized a crew and equipment in less than 24-hours. Based on initial inspection, it was determined that the issue was a bearing failure. To access the bearing, the eccentric gears, flywheel and clutch were removed. With the lack of a replacement part, the bearing was sent to one of our strategic machining vendors for an expedited repair. While the press was down, CCI’s teams performed detailed inspections, identifying additional failed components. The clutch belt was torn and backshaft gears were sheared off requiring additional repairs to be completed while the press was down. Once all the new components were installed, CCI’s supervision performed start-up and commissioning services to ensure the press was fully functional.
As the turnkey installation contractor, our team offered our client collective expertise and solutions for problem resolution, reducing the risk for future impacts to production operations. This involved leading critical collaboration meetings with Ford, the OEM integrator and our trade partners.
With a strong reputation for completing complex machine repairs across the nation, our team was able to demonstrate our experience and execute the project deliverables with zero lost time incidents or quality issues. American Axel’s press is now equipped to optimize production by strengthening reliability and increasing output for their essential manufacturing process.
