Dust Collection Upgrades

Industry: Power Generation

PROJECTS

Scope of Work

In a proactive effort to upgrade multiple existing dry dust collection systems to wet dust collection systems, CCI partnered with DTE to provide General Contracting and Self-Perform services at three power plants located in Monroe, St. Clair & Belle River. Water-based dust collection is a safe and efficient solution for greater control over dust. The Environmental Protection Agency identifies water dust collection as a Best Available Control Technology (BACT). The system also meets National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards for combustible dust.

Serving as the general contractor, CCI self-performed all the demolition, rigging & machinery installation activities. In addition, CCI managed seven subcontractors providing electrical, piping, civil, abatement, scaffolding, ventilation and specialty cleaning services. To achieve the overall outage schedule, the majority of the work was performed on two shifts working around the clock. Based on the site access constraints at the Monroe facility, two separate monorail extensions were required at each end of the plant to transfer the equipment to the final location. The monorail was designed, fabricated and installed by CCI.

Throughout the duration of the projects, over 100 local construction jobs were created and materials were sourced through Michigan-based vendors. CCI was also able to reach a tier II Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) spend of 15%. Exceeding the project goal of 10%.
